Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Jin Chuntai et al. (1989). The type section is at Luoquanwan in southern area of Erlangshan Mt. area in west Sichuan Province.

Synonym: (罗圈湾组) , Luochuanwan Fm


Lithology and Thickness

The formation, 318 m thick, consists of dark gray to gray black thick-bedded silty mudstone, mudstone and argillaceous siltstone.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably onto the underlying Yuanyangyan Fm

Upper contact

It rests conformably below the overlying Longdanyan Fm

Regional extent

It is steady in lithology. It is about 500 m in thickness in the area north to the type section. The exposures are confined in southern slope of Erlangshan Mt.

Fossils

It bears fossils of graptolites Petalolithus clavatus, Diversograptus sichuanensis, Streptograptus runcinatus, etc. and brachiopods Borealis, Eospirifer, Striispirifer, Nucleospira, etc.
